The citadel is an Iconic Islamic monument that was built 1176 A.D during the middle ages by the great sultan Salahudin as a defensive fort to face the attacks of the crusaders . Later, it was used as a place of residents for the Muslim rulers till the 19th century . In the citadel there is a famous landmark and very unique architecture of a mosque, which is the Alabaster Mosque. It was built by Mohamed Ali Pasha around 1830 and took 19 years to be built .
